International Water Association

The International Water Association (IWA) is a global association of professionals working in the water industry that covers every aspect of the water cycle and aims to bridge the gap between the science and practice of water management. It aids water experts in developing creative, realistic, and long-lasting answers to the complex problems associated with the world’s water needs. IWA is a dynamic, expanding organisation that provides top-notch scientific publications, creative initiatives, and a number of well-respected international events; such as the IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition.

World Water Congress & Exhibition

The IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition is the global event for water professionals covering the entire water cycle. As the Congress rotates through major cities, each event has an extra emphasis on issues of specific interest to the region. The event brings together key stakeholders and contacts from core water sector groups, such as those focused on urban water and urban water services, as well as participants from industry and agriculture, architects and urban planners, soil and groundwater experts and hydrologists, social scientists, the ICT sector, the financial sector, and others. With a strong representation and contribution from Canada and North America, the IWA Congress & Exhibition is a vital opportunity to learn about the North-Atlantic water challenges and solutions, including through technical site visits.

The 2022 Congress & Exhibition was hosted by Denmark and all the Nordic Region countries, sporting a highly successful turnout with 8900 participants from 102 countries globally. The focus of the 2022 World Water Congress & Exhibition was to report on the water sector progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The emphasis namely focused on SDG6, dedicated to clean water and sanitation, however, all 17 SDGs were explored in relation to water. The 2024 edition of #WorldWaterCongress will explore key topics such as circular economy and resource recovery, climate-smart approaches to water and wastewater, nature-based solutions, innovation in technology and policy, and many more vital elements impacting the water industry worldwide.
